We generally try to depart between 8am and 9am, and exact times will be confirmed in the final timings itinerary which arrives about a week before travel.
We send this close to travel so we can plan for any major traffic issues which sometimes arise due to road works etc.
Tuesday 14 May 2024
Our aim at Pennywood Tours is to give you a relaxing and carefree time where we do all the work so you can sit back and enjoy the trip.
To this end, all tours are escorted by a group leader who will check you on board and make sure you can find your allocated seat. We’ll seat you with the person/people you are booked with but if you know of anyone else on the trip who has booked separately please let us know in advance and we’ll try to seat you all together. The coach will be a super deluxe vehicle with a toilet and is incredibly comfortable.
Our Group Leader will advise you of all the details of travel times, stops, when to return to the coach etc. so you will be in no doubt about what and when. He or she will be available for any additional questions you may have.
We will do our best to stick to our itinerary but you will understand that when there are traffic jams or adverse weather conditions, we may struggle to do everything as planned but we will let you know what information we have in these situations when we have it.
We look forward to seeing you and welcome any questions you may have by contacting us at info@pennywoodtours.com or on 01622 434 981.
Renowned for their beautiful, white, sandy beaches, turquoise water, peace and quiet, tame birds and rare plants, as well as plants which won’t normally grow in the UK (flourishing due to Scilly’s lovely temperate climate) the Isles of Scilly are a must-visit destination!
Transport between the islands is by boat and most of the islands themselves only have a few cars for residents to move their shopping from the quayside to their houses. Life proceeds at a lovely, leisurely pace.
We will sail to the Isles on the Scillonian for the journey to the islands’ capital, St Mary’s, where Sir Harold Wilson had a home and is now buried. Here, we then take a local boat to St Martin’s, to stay in the 4-star Karma Hotel on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
For convenience, once your luggage is loaded onto the Scillonian ferry at Penzance, you will not see it again until you are in your room on St Martin’s.
Our hotel is right on one of the island’s two quaysides, overlooking gorgeous beaches and fabulous islets, and at night it is so dark that, on a clear night, you can see the heavens in a way you can normally only dream of.
Each day there will be a transfer boat to other islands and the capital, St Mary’s, which is like a large village.
Please note, you must be able to walk comfortably for at least a mile to get the most from this holiday.
We travel by luxury coach to Cornwall, with regular stops for refreshments, before reaching our overnight hotel, the Travelodge at Camborne. This is a fairly new hotel and, as we’ll only use it for a few hours to sleep, it serves the purpose adequately. There is a restaurant next door for dinner, if required.
This night will be on a room only basis as we will leave early in the morning to board the Scillonian, where you can buy something for breakfast.
We will board the Scillonian ferry to St Mary’s and then take a transfer boat to St Martin’s.
Free time as you choose using the transfer boats, not forgetting that we include entry to Tresco Abbey Gardens on one of the days (we try to visit on a good weather day).
On our return you can either buy fish and chips on the front in Penzance or visit the restaurant by the hotel. This night is bed and breakfast.
We will travel back home on our luxury coach, with regular stops.
Please note that all destinations will require walking, with steps and slopes, which may be slippery, with the need to step between quayside and boat deck. Sensible shoes are a requirement and you should dress for the weather. You must be able to walk comfortably for at least a mile to get the most from this holiday.
