Discover the Netherlands through world-class gardens, art, royal history and remarkable engineering on this six-day escorted tour.

We travel by luxury coach and ferry and stay for five nights at the Grand Museum Hotel in Delft. The programme includes Royal Delft, optional time in Amsterdam, Paleis Het Loo, the Kröller-Müller Museum and De Hoge Veluwe National Park, Trompenburg Tuinen, Leiden, Royal FloraHolland, Keukenhof and the Delta Works. A three-course welcome dinner at Bij Harry is included on the first night.

We generally try to depart between 8am and 9am, and exact times will be confirmed in the final timings itinerary which arrives about a week before travel. 

We send this close to travel so we can plan for any major traffic issues which sometimes arise due to road works etc.

What to Expect

Our aim at Pennywood Tours is to give you a relaxing and carefree time where we do all the work so you can sit back and enjoy the trip.

To this end, all tours are escorted by a group leader who will check you on board and make sure you can find your allocated seat. We’ll seat you with the person/people you are booked with but if you know of anyone else on the trip who has booked separately please let us know in advance and we’ll try to seat you all together. The coach will be a super deluxe vehicle with a toilet and is incredibly comfortable.

Our Group Leader will advise you of all the details of travel times, stops, when to return to the coach etc. so you will be in no doubt about what and when. He or she will be available for any additional questions you may have.

We will do our best to stick to our itinerary but you will understand that when there are traffic jams or adverse weather conditions, we may struggle to do everything as planned but we will let you know what information we have in these situations when we have it.

Itinerary for Keukenhof and Other Wonders of the Netherlands - 2027

Day 1To Delft, a most beautiful city

We travel by luxury coach and ferry to Delft and check into the Grand Museum Hotel, part of the Best Western Signature Collection, for five nights. This evening, a three-course welcome dinner is included at Bij Harry, a short walk from the hotel.

Day 2Royal Delft and perhaps Amsterdam?

After breakfast, we walk across Delft to the world-famous Royal Delft Museum for a self-guided visit, with time for refreshments and its beautiful shop. The rest of the day is free to explore Delft, including the Vermeer Museum and historic churches, or you may join our optional afternoon transfer to Amsterdam.

Day 3William of Orange and fabulous art

We begin at Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn, the magnificent former royal palace of William III and Mary II, with its restored Baroque gardens and elegant interiors. We then visit the Kröller-Müller Museum in De Hoge Veluwe National Park, renowned for its Van Gogh collection, modern masterpieces and extensive sculpture garden.

Day 4A Rotterdam surprise and beautiful Leiden

Today we visit Trompenburg Tuinen and Arboretum, a peaceful botanical garden and green oasis in Rotterdam. We continue to Hortus Botanicus Leiden, the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands, followed by time to explore Leiden and the Young Rembrandt Studio.

Day 5The main event!

There is an option for an early start to see the end of the trading day at Royal FloraHolland, the world’s largest marketplace for flowers and plants. We then spend the main part of the day at Keukenhof in Lisse, where around seven million bulbs create one of the world’s most spectacular spring displays.

Day 6A uniquely Dutch solution

After checking out, we visit the Delta Works museum and exhibition to discover the remarkable system of dams, barriers, locks and dykes that protects the Netherlands from flooding. After our visit, we continue to Calais for the return ferry and journey home.

Please note that all destinations will require walking, with steps and slopes that may be uneven or slippery. Sensible shoes are required and you should dress for the weather. You must be able to walk comfortably for at least a mile to get the most from this holiday.
