Herstmonceux Castle and Gardens, which dates from 1441, was built by builders from Flanders using bricks made from the local clay. Construction began under the then-owner, Sir Roger Fiennes, and was continued after his death in 1449 by his son, Lord Dacre. It is one of the oldest, significant buildings built of brick in the UK.
The parks and gardens of Herstmonceux Castle and Place are Grade II* listed and the walled garden to the north of the castle is Grade II listed.
We have arranged castle tour and a free flow of the gardens.
We should return between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.
