Enjoy winter sun on the French Riviera with colourful carnival celebrations, outstanding gardens and guided visits to some of the region’s most glamorous destinations.

We travel by luxury coach and ferry, staying overnight at the Hotel Oceania Le Jura Dijon on both the outward and return journeys. Our base for five nights is the Holiday Inn Nice. The programme includes guided visits in Nice, Monaco and Cannes, the Nice Carnival, Villa and Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild, Jardins des Serres de la Madone and the spectacular Fête du Citron in Menton.

Departure Locations & Times

We generally try to depart between 8am and 9am, and exact times will be confirmed in the final timings itinerary which arrives about a week before travel. 

We send this close to travel so we can plan for any major traffic issues which sometimes arise due to road works etc.

What to Expect

Our aim at Pennywood Tours is to give you a relaxing and carefree time where we do all the work so you can sit back and enjoy the trip.

To this end, all tours are escorted by a group leader who will check you on board and make sure you can find your allocated seat. We’ll seat you with the person/people you are booked with but if you know of anyone else on the trip who has booked separately please let us know in advance and we’ll try to seat you all together. The coach will be a super deluxe vehicle with a toilet and is incredibly comfortable.

Our Group Leader will advise you of all the details of travel times, stops, when to return to the coach etc. so you will be in no doubt about what and when. He or she will be available for any additional questions you may have.

We will do our best to stick to our itinerary but you will understand that when there are traffic jams or adverse weather conditions, we may struggle to do everything as planned but we will let you know what information we have in these situations when we have it.

Itinerary for Fête au Citron® - 2027

Day 1To France

We travel by luxury coach and ferry to France, with regular comfort breaks along the way. Our overnight stop is the Hotel Oceania Le Jura in Dijon, where there will be time to relax and enjoy dinner either at the hotel or in the city.

Day 2Through France to Nice

After breakfast, we continue south through the changing scenery of France to Nice. We check into the Holiday Inn Nice, our comfortable base for the next five nights on the French Riviera.

Day 3Discover Nice and the evening carnival

We begin at the Jardin Botanique de Nice, whose collections represent Mediterranean climates from around the world. A local guide then introduces us to the highlights of Nice on a private city tour. In the evening, grandstand tickets are included for the spectacular Nice Carnival, with its colourful floats, music and performers.

Day 4Monaco and Cannes

Today a local guide accompanies us to two of the Riviera’s most celebrated destinations. We explore Monaco, with its old town, palace and famous Monte Carlo district, before continuing to Cannes to discover the Croisette and atmospheric old quarter.

Day 5The French Riviera

This morning we visit the elegant Villa and Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild, set in a magnificent position above the Mediterranean. In the afternoon, we continue to the beautiful Serres de la Madone garden, renowned for its rare plants and tranquil terraces.

Day 6The main event!

We travel to Menton for the Fête du Citron®, the famous Lemon Festival. Grandstand tickets are included so that we can enjoy the citrus-themed parade, complete with extraordinary floats, music and dancers. There will also be time to admire the remarkable citrus sculptures in the Biovès Gardens.

Day 7Return to Dijon

After breakfast, we begin our return journey north through France. We travel back to Dijon for a further overnight stay at the Hotel Oceania Le Jura.

Day 8Back to the UK

Following breakfast, we continue to Calais for our return ferry crossing. Our coach then takes us home, with comfort breaks along the way.

Please note that all destinations will require walking, with steps and slopes that may be uneven or slippery. Sensible shoes are required and you should dress for the weather. You must be able to walk comfortably for at least a mile to get the most from this holiday.
