You may not have heard of the Corso at Zundert, but it is billed as the world’s biggest flower parade and is simply awe inspiring. You will be amazed!

Colditz Castle is famed for its use as the prison where allied officers’ serial escapers were put together in WWII, and we will hear some rare insights from a very special guide!

Itinerary for Corso and Colditz

Day 1Crossing to France

Departing in the morning, we will cross the Channel by Eurotunnel and head to our hotel, the NH Koningshof in Eindhoven in the Netherlands, to get ready for the next day’s super event.

Day 2Corso day!

The Corso at Zundert in the Netherlands is national news in the country. It consists of a parade of floats, three storeys high (yes bigger than a house), accompanied by marching bands, bicycle bands (well it is Holland!) and other jollity.
The floats comprise frameworks covered in millions of dahlia flowers and often involve moving parts, smoke, noise and may even have people woven into the designs! Quite an amazing sight and worth the trip on its own! We, of course, have a grandstand view booked!

Days 3Travel across Germany

After a second night in the Koningshof, we will travel to our overnight hotel in Germany, probably stopping at Arcen Castle in the Netherlands, but this visit is still to be confirmed.

Day 4Colditz Castle part 1

We arrive at the castle in the afternoon for a first look around.
We’re lucky to be having a guided tour by Colonel Piers Storie-Pugh OBE (Retd) whose Father Colonel Peter Storie-Pugh was imprisoned here between 1940 and 1945, and has passed insights to Piers that you won’t find in the history books!
Overnight we’ll stay at the Park Hotel Leipzig.

Day 5Colditz Castle Part 2

A more detailed tour of the castle with Piers followed by another night at the Park Hotel.

Day 6Return to Eindhoven

It’s a long way from Colditz to Calais, imagine the task facing the escapers! We’ll break the journey up with a stop at the NH Konigshof overnight before making our way to the Eurotunnel hub on day 7.

We hope to visit additional venues on day 6 and 7 but these are still to be confirmed.

Please note that all destinations will require walking, possibly with steps and slopes, which may be slippery. Sensible shoes are a requirement, and you should dress for the weather.

What to Expect

Our aim at Pennywood Tours is to give you a relaxing and carefree time where we do all the work so you can sit back and enjoy the trip.

To this end, all tours are escorted by a group leader who will check you on board and make sure you can find your allocated seat. We’ll seat you with the person/people you are booked with but if you know of anyone else on the trip who has booked separately please let us know in advance and we’ll try to seat you all together. The coach will be a super deluxe vehicle with a toilet and is incredibly comfortable.

Our Group Leader will advise you of all the details of travel times, stops, when to return to the coach etc. so you will be in no doubt about what and when. He or she will be available for any additional questions you may have.

We will do our best to stick to our itinerary but you will understand that when there are traffic jams or adverse weather conditions, we may struggle to do everything as planned but we will let you know what information we have in these situations when we have it.

We look forward to seeing you and welcome any questions you may have by contacting us at info@pennywoodtours.com or on 01622 434 981.
