Our tour to Colditz in 2024 was one of the best trips we’ve ever run, from the lovely journey through the castle-laden countryside of East Germany to visiting the beautiful places where so many famous stories were played out, we cannot wait to go back, especially now Dresden has been added to the itinerary.
Additionally, we’ve added the option for you to book your own flight home to save on two days of coach travel, if you so desire. It only saves one night at a hotel but saves two days of travel.
Colditz Castle has become famous as the WWII Prisoner of War camp where the Germans placed everyone who consistently escaped to keep them in one unescapable prison, which of course proved to be untrue!
For the tour, in addition to hearing the story of Colditz in the war, we’ll pay particular attention to one prisoner: Colonel Peter Storie-Pugh.
Peter escaped twice, which led to him being sent to Colditz in 1940, where, despite being involved in up to 22 escape attempts, he remained a prisoner until liberation in 1945.
Our specialist guide has a particular interest in the story because he is Colonel Piers Storie-Pugh (retired), Peter’s son!
You will undoubtedly have heard of Dresden, infamously bombed heavily toward the end of the war but now rebuilt and returned to its former beauty, and we will enjoy a tour of the city to explore this history, and its return to beauty.
