The Netherlands is a stunningly beautiful country of big lazy rivers and clean, beautiful, old towns with numerous bicycles and friendly people who all speak English.
Looking at all this today, it’s hard to believe that 80 years ago this area was the scene of a huge Anglo-American operation to liberate the Netherlands quickly and end the War by Christmas 1944.
Today, we can enjoy the stunning beauty of these places, hear the story of our men in an uplifting way, and celebrate the freedom they helped give us.
We are joined for this trip by guided experts with personal connections to history:
- Colonel Piers Storie Pugh (Retired): A highly respected member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides, with badge number 12, and a close family connection to the Battle for Arnhem Bridge itself. His insights challenge the myths and bring new perspectives to this historic event.
- Jeanne Melchers: A knowledgeable guide on Dutch life under occupation and the heroic Dutch Resistance. Her father was a decorated resistance leader, and Jeanne shares powerful stories about the Hunger Winter, the post-war legacy, and the enduring impact of these events.
