On reading our brochure you’ll see we often offer holidays on a Bed and Breakfast (B&B) and there is a very good reason for this – we want you to enjoy a good standard of dining and control over what you eat, when you eat and even how much you spend.
It seems standard practice in many hotels give groups a ‘standard package’ set by hotel without any regard to what you as an individual would prefer. This means a fixed dining time to suit them, not you, a set 3 course meal and service that comes and goes as the kitchen and staff struggle to balance service between the ‘normal’ diners and ‘the group’.
Some hotels offer reduced quality of food, or the kitchen just can’t cope with cooking so much at one go without loss of quality. Once, we were even told that the poor menu on offer was not normally a problem as groups normally only stay for 1 night and that was in a chain hotel with a historically good reputation!
It’s very hard to move hotels off this ‘Group mentality’ offer because so many groups just put up with it, normally because their focus is the lowest price rather than the best quality.

We feel you deserve better so when we book a hotel on a B&B basis, we normally chose hotels with restaurants nearby to give you choice beyond the hotel and we advise the hotel that you will possibly book yourself in for dinner in the hotel restaurant at a time to suit them with access to the full menu.
It’s also an opportunity for you to explore the local area in the evening if you would like.
What if we’re abroad? English really is the global language, taught as standard across schools in Europe so hotels and restaurants will almost always have staff who speak English and or have English menus. Even in France, on trying out your primitive school level French, staff will say ‘just speak English’.
Where we book hotels on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast Basis (DBB), it’s because there is no alternative and because we know the dining there is at least good, if not excellent. So, if you see a holiday sold as DBB, you can generally expect a lovely meal.
If you’ve been to the lovely Karma Hotel in the Isles of Scilly or the Carlyon Bay Hotel for the Great Gardens of Cornwall holiday, you will know what I mean. Click to see our latest Holidays.
So, B&B is all about giving you the best experience and more control and don’t forget we’re on hand to help you with any problems.
